The air entering the unit carries moisture, and <strong>when it passes through a very cold section inside the equipment<\/strong>, that vapor condenses into liquid. Just like a cold glass sweating on a hot summer day. In short, good old condensation. And that\u2019s why, the hotter and more humid the surroundings, the more water is produced.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 2 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<\/div>\n<p><strong>One to two liters per hour.<\/strong> That\u2019s what a domestic split can produce without breaking a sweat, and on a day of heavy use the daily total easily climbs above <strong>ten liters<\/strong>. For <strong>ironing<\/strong>, for example, because it leaves no residues and helps prevent white marks on clothes. Also for <strong>cleaning glass<\/strong>, because it leaves no streaks when it dries. It\u2019s not miraculous, but it makes the result considerably easier without having to scrub so hard with the cloth.<\/p>\n<p>Some people even use it for their <strong>windscreen washer<\/strong> in the car, mixing it with a little soap. It isn\u2019t essential, but it\u2019s a practical way to give an outlet to something that otherwise you\u2019d pour down the drain.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 4 --><\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset-image article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<\/div>\n<h3>What you should never do with that water<\/h3>\n<p>The experts are clear here and leave no room for doubt. Even though it may look clean at first glance, <strong>it is not potable water<\/strong>: not for drinking, not for cooking, and not for anything involving human consumption.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 5 --><\/p>\n<p>The reason is simple. The air entering the unit carries dust, pollen, mites and suspended particles that end up in the condensate water. And if the unit isn\u2019t cleaned properly, the tray can accumulate bacteria.<\/p>\n<p>Ariston adds a nuance that is often overlooked: the circuit itself can release metallic residues from the copper and aluminum it\u2019s made of. In other words, the water is only safe if the unit is well maintained.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 6 --> <\/p>\n<div class=\"ad ad-lat2\">\n<div class=\"ad-box\" id=\"div-gpt-lat2\">\n  <\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Therefore, even though it may resemble pharmaceutical-grade distilled water, using it for consumption is a mistake. El Universo notes: the water from the split has not undergone any purification process; it has simply condensed on a cold surface.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<\/div>\n<h3>Plants: with care, but yes<\/h3>\n<p>And for <strong>watering plants<\/strong>? A note of caution. It is mineral-free water, and in the long run that isn\u2019t ideal for all plants: if you use it the same way all the time, the soil quality degrades.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 7 --><\/p>\n<p>Mitsubishi Electric explains it on its Comfort blog: the recommended approach is to mix it with tap water or add fertilizer to compensate for the lack of nutrients. It\u2019s a small adjustment, but it makes a difference.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-asset-image article-asset-normal article-asset-center\">\n<\/div>\n<p>There are, however, plants that truly benefit. The acid-loving varieties, such as hydrangeas and azaleas, which don\u2019t tolerate lime, actually appreciate this water. In that sense, it\u2019s more of an advantage than a problem. For ornamental shrubs and flowers, no issue.<\/p>\n<p><!-- BREAK 8 --><\/p>\n<p>For tomatoes and lettuce, it\u2019s better to seek another source. According to ClimaMania, this resource shines in non-edible plants.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, it isn\u2019t about making things more complicated. It\u2019s simply about not discarding something that, after all, has a use. It isn\u2019t a miracle resource nor does it work for everything, but it isn\u2019t waste either.
