Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey Reunite for Apple TV Comedy

I had to squint twice because I could hardly believe that in more than a decade these two hadn’t teamed up in any other project. But that’s the way it’s gone. The people responsible for embodying one of television’s most iconic couples of this century are reuniting for a new series. It’s titled ‘Brothers‘ and it already has a release date.

Apple TV+ has just revealed that on September 23 it will premiere the first two episodes of this comedy, reuniting Woody Harrelson and Matthew McConaughey twelve years after ‘True Detective’, the crime drama that captivated audiences worldwide.

Brothers Unaware

Of course, this marks a complete tonal shift from the HBO series, because in ‘Brothers’ (initially announced as ‘Brothers from another mother’) both actors will play fictional versions of themselves as two friends discover a secret that overturns their relationship: that they could actually be biological brothers.

According to the official synopsis:

When Woody’s daughter’s wedding goes awry, he heads to Austin with the whole family to spend a spell at Matthew’s ranch and gather himself, but what begins as a getaway quickly spirals out of control when Ma Mac, Matthew’s mother (played by Holland Taylor), accidentally reveals the major family secret. While Woody tears the ranch apart trying to uncover the truth, Matthew faces a completely different identity crisis: the possibility of running for governor of Texas. The result is an emotional, chaotic and tremendously funny story about friendship, family, fame and the tricky boundary between myth and reality.

Joining them in the cast are Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan, Oona Yaffe and Holland Taylor, among others.

McConaughey and Harrelson also serve as executive producers on a series created by Lee Eisenberg, responsible for that gem that is ‘Jury Duty’. Trent O’Donnell (‘Colin from Accounts’) directs the pilot as well as several of the eight episodes that make up the season.
